When John Goodman presented at the 1990 Academy Award ceremonies, host (and future Monsters, Inc. co-star) Billy Crystal introduced him as the hardest working man in show business since Michael Caine. True to form, the last forty years have seen Goodman deliver a ton of varied and extraordinary performances on screen — I’d venture to say he’s the greatest living actor to never even receive an Oscar nomination.

Would I have nominated him for something specific? Yes — as the frightening villain in 10 Cloverfield Lane. But also, really, he is long overdue now for a lifetime achievement Oscar (even if they sadly no longer show them onscreen).
