This week, the Academy announced this year’s recipients of their annual honorary Oscars.
- Quincy Jones: A seven-time Oscar-nominated songwriter and musician who was the first Black producer to be nominated for best picture
- Juliet Taylor: Woody Allen’s casting director who will receive the award for lifetime achievement
- Barbara Broccoli: A James Bond producer
- Richard Curtis: A screenwriter and director
Not a bad list. I love that Juliet Taylor, a casting titan, gets her just desserts. And Richard Curtis is great; in addition to helming many a rom-com, he also created Comic Relief. Jones is a head-scratcher, as he already got the Hersholt award three decades ago. Oh well.
