Fifteen years ago today, Lars and the Real Girl was released. Ryan Gosling was Lars Lindstrom, a smalltown introvert who finds companionship with an inanimate sex doll – only to find the support of his community. The love that director Craig Gillespie has for Nancy Oliver’s offbeat but never quirky script is palpable, and the performances from Gosling, Patricia Clarkson, and especially Paul Schneider and Emily Mortimer as Lars’ brother and sister-in-law are all top-notch. See it today!
