Jem Cohen’s Austrian film Museum Hours premiered in the United States exactly ten years ago today. It is a touching, deftly-paced story about two strangers who meet at Vienna’s Kunsthistorisches Museum. Johan (Bobby Sommer) befriends Anne (Mary Margaret O’Hara), who is visiting an ailing relative. The two find a mutual rapport on an intellectual and emotional level.
This is a masterpiece in chemistry and understatement in a realistic way, shot by a filmmaker whose eye rivals that of the artists on display at the film’s setting. Go see it!
